What are the benefits of prenatal exercise?

My gynecologist told me that it’s very necessary to follow some carefully designed exercise program. As these changes which one feels during pregnancy are not permanent one should do regular exercise for the benefits. I want to know some of the benefits of prenatal exercise. And tell me do I need to consult my health care provider for any kind of limitations on my activity before attempting any exercise?

Prenatal exercise has lot of benefits provided it is carefully planned. Some of the benefits of prenatal exercises include

  • Reduction in stress
  • Boost confidence
  • Improves blood circulation
  • Improves calcium absorption
  • Helps in getting a nice sleep
  • Minimizes the appearance of stretch marks after pregnancy
  • Helps in speedy recovery after pregnancy
  • Great way to relax both your body and mind
  • Strengthens the abdominal muscles
  • Shortens the labor time
  • Reduces discomfort

But over exerting can do more harm than good. So make sure you do not do vigorous exercises and stretching.Make sure you do not perspire excessively or get dehydrated. If there are any complications in your pregnancy you have to be doubly careful. Consult your physician before starting.
