best ipad apps for kids?

Today when I was cleaning my boys room I found a magazine with cover page best I pad apps for kids. So I thought that on his coming birthday I will surprise him by gifting him an ipad… as I am a house wife I don’t know much about all these electronics items and have never bought it before. So I want to know which app will be best for my son as he is going to turn eighteen on his birthday… also tell me that what are the things that I should keep in mind while purchasing it…. Which is the best company I should go for?
