Boys peeing in bed while sleeping!

How serious is an issue about bed wetting. What is the cause of it, why can’t the child control himself? I knew this family where the kid had serious problem about wetting the bed. I don’t recall what they did after that. So what can you tell me more about boys peeing on the bed at night while sleeping? How is stopped. Isn’t the child normally potty trained? Till what age of kids face this problem. Are they given medication, or does one track what time the child has to go to the bathroom at night and then keep a timer?
