Cyberspace safety rules for teenagers

Teen cyber safety

Cyberspace is a place for teenagers to go and have fun. They can play games and download music, do their projects and can chat with their friends. It has many advantages and is also helpful to the teenagers to develop knowledge. But, there are hackers who try to take advantage of these teenagers. These people try to use teenagers with the help of the cyber space. The teenagers being unaware of all these at times fall into their trap. You can only prevent this by personal judgment. You can also prevent this by following a few simple rules.

1. Personal information

It is not safe to give away your personal information on the internet. Internet sites asks to include your name, phone number, address and many other personal details. You should not give away easily if the site is not authentic. You should also let your parents know about all your passwords so that if you fall into trouble, they can help you out. It is never safe to give away all your personal information because people may take advantage of all these information and get you into serious trouble.

2. Contact lists

On social networking site you should make sure that you know everyone in your contact lists. If you do add a stranger, he/she may just use this opportunity to get information about you. You should never accept any invitations to meet an unknown person. You never know what trouble you may fall into. People nowadays use fake profiles in social networking sites to get people out of their homes and then use them the way they want to. One should always avoid blind dates because you never know what is waiting on the other side. You should also try not to put your future schedules on the net. People may take this opportunity to pick on you. For certain people this much information is enough to track you down and use you for their purpose.

3. Downloading

You should not try and download anything you see on the internet. You should have an idea of what the thing actually is and from where you are downloading. It is necessary to keep your parents updated about all your downloads. Some of these downloaded files may pose security threat. These files may extract information from your computer even though you have not published them on the net. These downloads can be very dangerous. So it is important to keep in mind of what exactly you are downloading and from where you are downloading it. If your parents are aware of it, they may be able to do something if something really wrong happens.

4. Personal comfort

You should also trust your own skills in judging a person. If you find a person and start chatting with him/her and then you feel that the chat was inappropriate, then you should stop it there and then. If you find someone’s comments fishy then you should put him/her on ignore list. You should remember when yo are online the world is in your hands. You can do whatever you want to. You should do what you feel is appropriate. If you find somebody’s character fishy never hesitate to inform others about the person and ask them to ignore him/her. You can even walk away and turn off the computer if somebody tries to get into your private life.

5. Parents

You should always keep on informing your parents about everything that is going on. If somebody passes an inappropriate comment do not hesitate to tell your parents. You should always keep your parents aware of your life. It would be wise to give the passwords of all your accounts to your parents. This is because if you do fall in trouble, then your parents are the only one who can help you and these passwords can come in very handy at times.
