What is douching?

I have just passed my menstruation and my boyfriend suggests me to douch myself. I don’t know what douching it but I am curious to know about this. I have googled on internet but I am not able to understand it. So can you tell me in simple words that what is douching? A detailed description will be greatly appreciated.

Douching usually refers to vaginal irrigation which is the rinsing of your vagina but it can also refer to rinsing of any body cavity. In your case, it is vaginal irrigation only. A douche bag is an equipment for douching. It is a bag which is used for holding the fluid used in douching. To avoid transferring the intestinal bacteria into vagina. The same bag must not be used as an enema and also a vaginal douche. A vaginal douch can consist of water, water mixed with vinegar or even some antiseptic chemicals. Douching has been reported to have a number of supposed but unproven benefits.
