Can someone enlighten me about cake recipes from scratch?

My niece would be turning three in few days time, and since she is here with me, I want to prepare a cake for her. Although, I am not a great cook, however, I would still like to do my best to make her happy! I want to know about cake recipes from scratch, as its quite evident that I am an amateur. My niece loves chocolates, and this gives me an idea to prepare a chocolate cake for her. I would be thankful to you guys if you can help with the recipe at the earliest! Thanks!

Hey! That is such a nice thought. My kid loves to gorge on chocolate cake that sometimes I make for them. You can also try this recipe. It goes like this. The ingredients required are 2 cups boiling water, 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 cup softened butter, 2 1/4 cups white sugar, 4 eggs, 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Then, preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease round cake pans. In medium bowl, pour boiling water over cocoa, and whisk until smooth. Let mixture cool. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at time, then stir in vanilla. Add the flour mixture alternately with the cocoa mixture. Spread batter evenly between the 3 prepared pans. Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. And the chocolate cake is ready! You can try different frosting on it like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry etc. There are also other cakes recipes that you can try. For knowing the recipes and method of preparations you can log on to sites like allrecipes, simplyrecipes, grouprecipes, eatingwell, foodnetwork etc. Hope your niece like my cake!
