Every time an infant cries out, the mother soothes him/her to sleep with a lullaby. When the music is switched on, toddlers love to sway to its tunes. Singing can help to positively develop the learning ability and the understanding of language in a child. However, what is the most suitable period when the child should be introduced to music and how to build a child’s interest toward music, is something that parents should understand.

Here are some tips to help you out with the same. Read on and learn how to get your child to sway to the tunes of a song:
1. The age factor
Start with the music training at an appropriate age. A kid can be trained to learn the basics of music, like tune and pitch, at a particular age and not just when they are born. According to a research, the inclination towards music develops from birth till the age of 9 years. During these years, a kid can pick up the basics of music. This would make the child sensible enough to appreciate and understand music at a later stage.
2. Play music at home
Playing a soundtrack at home can initiate a child’s interest toward music. Playing a song in the background, while doing daily activities is a good idea. This would make the kid used to the building blocks of the music while continuously listening to it.
3. Enjoy the song with your child
When you are listening to a song, try to enjoy the song with the kid. Make it an activity for you and your kid. So, the next time when you play some music, try swaying to the tunes with your kid. Try making moves to engage the kid and make him/her enjoy the activity.
4. Encourage music education at school
If your child has music as a subject at school, ask the teachers that you would like your child to be engaged in that. Also, trace how much interest your child takes in these activities. Singing can help sharpen the learning abilities of your kid. It isn’t necessary for your kid to get hooked on to learning some musical instrument; they only need to build up a basic knowledge of music to be able to appreciate it.

5. Sing along
When you are playing a song and the kid is trying to catch up, slow down and sing it with the child. Even for other activities like singing rhymes, try to do the same. So whether it is ‘Baba black sheep’ or ‘One, two, buckle my shoe’, sing along with your child. This way learning would be more fun for the kid. However, for obvious reasons you would know more than the child. But prefer not singing at your speed. This would put off the child. The purpose is to make the kid learn, so sing with the child.
6. Get an instructor
If your kid is showing tremendous interest in learning to play a musical instrument, it is a good idea to get an instructor. When the kid has developed interest, it is the right time to train him/her. The earlier the training starts, the better the child learns and picks up the musical notes.
7. Enjoy concerts and musicals with kids
Concerts and musicals are a good idea for children too. Get your little star to a concert or a musical of his/her choice and see them trying their own moves and swaying to the tunes. This would strengthen the bond you share and would joyfully introduce your kid to the musical world. The aim is not to force your child to be a perfectionist in music but just to help him/her focus and build up on the basics of music.
