What do you do to your baby who is crying his guts out? Soothe him or let the bawling baby cry it out. This is indeed an ambiguous situation for parents who cannot decide upon their behavior at this moment.

The dilemma arises due to a clash between two contradictory schools of thought, one of which says that comforting a crying baby on demand encourages a notion in baby's mind that crying will help him get everything while the other says that comforting the baby in initial weeks is good at least in initial few weeks.
According to a research published in published in the journal Paediatrics states that comforting a baby on demand can reduce the extent a baby cries. The research showed that babies who were comforted on time cried less later on in comparison to those who were left crying to settle on themselves.
"Controlled Crying" is another method that can be tried with babies over six months and above...where you don't approach a baby immediately, but let him cry for a few minutes following with few comforting gestures like touching and cuddling followed by picking up as the baby might be hungry or in pain, in case he doesn't stops crying.
It's not always for attention and demand that a baby cries all the time...and still if this is the case then why not give him, you never know that craving is for a genuine cause.
