Tiny early baby 'fighting for survival'

Kaven Gainey a tender little being was born at 23 weeks, doctors at the University Hospital of Wales were quite reluctant to save the premature baby but then the newborn survived after two operations and currently is living at home and is developing well.

He was hospitalized for five months because of bowl infection.

Kaven's mother Victoria Simmonds said, 'We had to keep going because Kaven was obviously fighting for survival'.

Kaven was finally allowed home last October, but his parents were told they might still face hurdles ahead.

Consultant Mark Drayton cautioned them that as infants develop, at times, problems could also surface.

Regarding the kid's condition, his father said, 'There's one main concern which we have. Kav may have a weakness on his left side but that's still uncertain, and only time will tell really'.
