Is flushed face related to some pregnancy symptom, if not anxiety?

Recently I have noticed that I have flushed face even when I haven’t worked out or anything. I have warm skin tone and getting red on face is something that I have never experienced before. Ironically, it has nothing to do with anxiety or embarrassment as such since I am quite confident when I talk to anybody. Moreover, it doesn’t stay this ways for long and I am back to normal in a matter of around 5-10 minutes. Nevertheless, I would like to know if it is a common symptom of pregnancy and there is anything that could be done about it. I am five weeks pregnant now and yet to see my OD in next three weeks. Can anyone please help?

Yes, the red flushed face and skin are normal and a common problem during pregnancy period. There are other common things over skin and other body parts like the pregnancy mask, acne, linea nigra, dark areas become darker, red palms and soles etc. But there is nothing to fear because its a common problem during pregnancy.

The reddening of your face and cheeks that you are experience during your pregnancy is due to both hormonal and physical changes that your body is undergoing. As the volume of blood in your body increases, you are more prone to flushing and the blood vessels that are present in your cheeks will automatically reflect this physical change. Also, anything that causes your blood vessels to dilate will cause a flush. Whether you are pregnant or not, increased heart rate causes the dilation of your blood vessels which you will have naturally during pregnancy anyway.

Other factors that causes flushed red skin are:

1. Spicy foods, a common nature during pregnancy

2. High physical exertion

3. Direct sun and wind exposure

4. Irritating skincare products

Mind well, you cannot change the dilation of your blood vessels, increasing heart rate, or increase in blood volume. So, if you feel this is seriously an embarrassing issue for you, try to make some changes in factors you can control like cutting out spicy food, opting for gentle exercises, regular yoga, wearing sun coat and sunscreen, and finding appropriate skincare products.
