Excess of fruit juice may lead to diarrhea among toddlers. Since many juices contain sorbitol (a nondigestible form of sugar), that’ll try to dilute the sugar by pulling water from blood stream into the intestine which results in loose stools.
Juices of apple, pear, peach, and cherry have high amount of sorbitol in them.
However, adults too cannot digest sorbitol but babies’ bodies are quite venerable to it.
Once your toddler is on solid food, he may have a cup of juice per day. Otherwise, it would replace his desire for healthy food and secondly, may lead to tooth decay. Thus, it would be preferable to offer water in place of juice to the toddlers.
