ipad apps for kids...

I will be purchasing ipad for my 12 year old kid and want to have some idea of ipad apps for kids, one that will help them enhance their knowledge of various study fields like maths, science...etc.... I want them to learn the basics of computer knowledge and also of their studies with fun...his summer holidays are almost over and i am looking for some great apps to ease up my child's way back to school with some great science apps! which will help him learn in a different way. Though I have read about the iOS technology bringing new tools for students that can really help and support learning, but has no idea from where to get them downloaded....please help me out with the different apps and from where I can get them downloaded at ease....!!!
