Is co sleeping with the toddler/babies a recommended good parental activity?

Toddlers are needed to keep at a very close proximity of the parents but when it comes to co sleeping with the baby the topic turns into a debate. Do you think it is great parental activity? I am actually planning to have children but want to know all the details that go undermined. Please tell me what is recommended actually that is best for the baby co sleeping with them or making them sleep separately?
