How long should I breastfeed a newborn baby?

I gave birth to my little angel. As I don’t have much knowledge about baby feeding schedule, I want to ask you how long and how often do I need to suckle my baby. I want to plan a schedule till she completes a year. She is only 1 week old now. Please suggest.

Deciding to breast feed your baby is the next best thing you can do for your little angel. Breastfed babies are more nourished as mother's milk will safe guard the little one from all diseases and boost her immunity not just in childhood but throughout life. Hence, you need to plan your breast feeding according to the need of the baby.

What all you eat all your nine months will ensure the quality of your milk. So, even after you deliver, eat well of what is required. Some experts say you should feed the newborn when and how often it requires and demands. You will soon come to know if your little one is crying out of hunger. How often to feed plainly depends on demand. If the baby is quite comfortable with other things, then it's definitely hunger. But making a timetable is always a great idea.

Yes, you can make a timetable for a week old too. Most newborns will take an average 10 to 15 minutes on each breast or till your breast gets empty (you will feel lighter). Don't forget to pause for a burp after each side or there are chances you baby can puke the milk. When unlatching the baby from the breast, put a finger in the baby's mouth and remove slowly. Don't stop abruptly. Also, make sure you sit comfortably so that you easily feed for a longer period. Keep an eye on the baby too in the meanwhile. Happy feeding!
