Are some parents obsessed with controlling their children's lives?

If children and parents almost always argue over things, is it possible that the problem occurs due to obsession of parents trying to control their children's lives . What is the reason behind the obsession for parents trying to control their children’s lives? Is this only with authoritative parents? Just because parents themselves have been tortured when they were young, do they have to parent their children the same way? Can you tell me what the purpose of this is? What if the opinions of parents differ from those of children?

The arguments are common in almost every household these days. The reasons being parents want to teach their children whatever they have learnt from their experience. While children of this era are more practical and believe that time has changed and they cannot survive on old principles and traditions. Parents are more concerned and do not trust their children. They believe and find them to be immature and innocent. Some parents become so dominating that they do not realize that they are playing with the dreams of their child. They impose their decisions on them in every sphere be it education, career, job or even marriage. In such cases children feel that parents do not understand them and constantly staying under pressure they vent their anger by rebelling by shouting, leaving their homes or sometimes committing suicides. Of course, it is the right of parents to guide them, to teach them manners and etiquettes and course of life. But they have to take care of the fact that today’s child is more informative, broadminded and practical. They need answers for everything they do. Parents will always have different opinions than that of children these days. In such a case to avoid arguments, any one of the group has to be accommodating and have to compromise to maintain peace and tranquility in the family.
