What are oral contraceptive pills?

My friend told me that there are new ways in which we can avoid having baby till the time we want. She told me that there is new contraceptive method in market which is known as oral contraceptive. We both went to a chemist to see what it is but we did not find it as he did not had the stock. So I was wondering if anyone can tell us here that what it is and how it is different from the normal contraceptive pills?
