Can someone tell me how to make paper mache masks?

My 8 years old kid has planned a party at home and he has invited all his friends. Interestingly, he has his own ideas for the party, and he is the one who is going to decide everything, ranging from the costumes, to the cuisines. Nonetheless, he wants his mom and me to make masks for all his friends. Could someone please suggest me how to make paper Mache masks, as neither of us has ever prepared it before?

Here are the instruction to make paper mache masks :-

1. Tear newspaper into strips about an inch wide and six or seven inches long and set aside.

2. Inflate a 12 inch balloon with air and tie closed. Blow it up to the size you want based on how large the mask needs to be to fit on your face.

3. Cover a large cup or mug with plastic wrap and then set the balloon on top of it. The cup will act as a base to hold your balloon while you work on it and the plastic wrap will keep the balloon from sticking to the cup once you apply the paper mache.

4. Make your paper mache paste by mixing one part flour with two parts of water until it develops a consistency of thick glue.

5. Dip the newspaper strips in the paper mache mixture and apply one at a time to the balloon. Cover only one side of the balloon with a layer of paper mache and be sure to leave holes for the eyes.

6. Add features like a nose, ears, warts or thick eyebrows using foil and securing with masking tape. Then apply a final layer of paper mache strips and let it dry.

7. Pop the balloon and make a hole in each side of the mask using a hole punch. Run a piece of elastic cord through the holes and tie in a knot at each end to secure. Then paint your mask as desired.

So, I guess this will serve your cause. Enjoy!
