Photographing a newborn baby!

Is it safe to get pictures taken of newborn babies? I was thinking of taken the camera to the hospital when my friend’s child is born. The birth is going to take place in about 5 days. What do you suggest is it ok to take a picture? I have a very old camera which belongs to my father. I don’t really remember how to switch of the flash just in case it is on. I am bit fearful of taking the picture, as I have never been around such delicate thing before. I don’t want to affect the baby in anyway. Please tell me if I am just being paranoid.

So when it comes to photographing newborns, my solid mantra is safety first. If you want to click photos of new born than there is nothing to much dangerous but you just have to keep these following things in your mind which I am going to share with you. And I don’t know that you will be allowed or not as it depend on the hospitals rules and regulation. When you are clicking newborn pics, put the baby's safety no. 1 in your list. Never do anything with a baby where you are not confident about their safety. Always keep the baby comfortable, calm and sleepy. The best time to take photos is when the baby is sleeping. Please do not force the baby into certain position if they are struggling, feeling uncomfortable & when they are stretching their bodies. You can also click pic after he/she has had a feed and has been put down for a nap. The noise of the shutter shouldn’t disturb them and means you can move their little hands and feet delicately without resistance or movement.
