Reason of a child being deformed!

What are the deformities a child could face during the birth process? I need to write a thesis about this information so I want to about all the complications a mother can go through when she is giving birth. I know about the Down syndrome. What others are, there is the mermaid syndrome. Plus there is a deformity where the child is born with a large growth, right? Could you name a few others, which are uncommon and common? I would like to know where I can study about them. Why is a child born deformed?

Many babies born with some kind of obvious defects or deformity. There are many different types of these defects and they are named as are a cleft lip is an opening or gap in the upper lip or lip connecting to the nostril. A cleft palate is an opening in the roof of the mouth connecting with the canal of the nose. Some children are born with 2 or more fingers joined together. You can go for surgery for this joined fingers problem. Sometimes medicines a mother takes early in pregnancy cause a child to be born with missing or incomplete arms or legs, or both. arthrogryposis means ‘curved joints’. Children with this disability are born with stiff joints and weak muscles. Now if you are asking that why children born with these defects than these causes are many: poor nutrition during pregnancy, heredity, medicines, pesticides, chemicals and poisons effects, German measles and if you already have one or more children with any birth defects than there is more chances for your coming baby with any child defects. You can prevent them by eating well during pregnancy, avoiding medicines and drugs during pregnancy, avoiding marrying close relatives.
