Road to infant safety?

It is very confusing where to start from and knowing whether i have not left out on anything to make sure of the infant safety. My brother is going to become a father very soon and i took up the responsibility to make their home safe for the baby. Can you tell me all that i need to keep in mind while ensuring safety of the infant. Are there any books or online sites available for some reference?

Congratulations to your brother for entering a new phase in his life. It is very kind of you to have volunteered in ensuring the safety of the new baby which is to arrive. The basic point to remember here is that an infant will be mostly in the crib. Keeping the crib safe is very important. Make sure that the toy hanger on the crib is secured tightly and there are no loose toys hanging from it. Also do not keep the crib near a window or near a wall which has shelves on it. Books or any articles can fall directly into the crib causing accidents and mostly, fear for the baby. All the furniture which is attached to the wall and is on the same height as your head when you stand should be rounded at the edges. You can even get rubber concealers for the edges which protect the babies head from bumping on sharp edges when you holding it in your hands.

If there is a pet in the house train him on the fact that a baby is to arrive and hence he should be away from the baby until it grows old enough to play with the pet.

You're a great Aunt!

Be that ways! :-)
