How to make a robot costume?

I want a red and silver robot costume for my child. She is a bit tom boyish and it is just a phase. I know it will pass. Anyway could you tell me how I should go about making a red and silver robot costume a 9 year old? She insists I make it; it would be nice if you could give me some ideas please? Where should I start from, what do I make it with? Would the entire thing be made with cardboard? Should I get her silver hot pants or something?

If your child want to make it than no need to worry it is so easy to make this costume. Things you need are: a cardboard box, an old football helmet, dryer vent hose and battery operated mini lights. Use the following steps to get started. Select a cardboard box large enough to cover your child's torso from the neck hips. Remove the bottom completely and cut a hole in the top for the head to fit. Cut a hole on each side for the arms. Make the robot antennas for the costume by cutting two pieces of coat hanger wire. Fill the holes of four wooden beads with hot glue. Attach a bead to each end of the two wires. Coat the outside of the box with silver spray paint. Do the same with the old football helmet and both antennas. Cut the dryer vent hose into appropriate lengths for your child's arms. Insert each one about 1/4-inch into the box and attach with wire. Reinforce on the inside of the openings with duct tape. Draw gauges on the front of the box with a black permanent marker or acrylic paint. Install batteries in the mini lights and attach to the front with hot glue. Glue both antennas to the top of the football helmet. Dress your child in sweat pants and a T-shirt. Place the box over his body and the helmet on his head. Turn the battery operated lights on and your robot costume is complete.
