Is taking of allergy pills during pregnancy safe?

My beau and I are planning on starting a family soon. We just want to be sure about knowing everything about pregnancy and child care. What is the best advice you can tell us about the safety of taking allergy pills during pregnancy? I get allergies very fast, even if a cat walks by I can just get allergic. I love animals though. I need to know what precautions I should be taking when I have a child? I require information on the care and nurturing of a baby, from the time you become pregnant till delivery.

I must say that it is a difficult question to answer. I am a pharmaceutical professional and all such anti-allergic drugs are Category- C ones. It means that they have not been tested on pregnant women. Infact no pregnant women would volunteer to be tested with a medicine during her pregnancy. While some of the medications are considered to be safe during pregnancy whereas the effects of other medications on your unborn baby are unknown. Therefore, it is important to pay special attention to the medications you are taking while you are pregnant, especially during your first trimester which is a crucial time for the development of your baby. Always take the advise of your health care provider and he will weigh all the benefits and the risk factors to your baby when making his/her recommendations about a particular medication. Some of the medications which you can take safely include drugs like benadryl and chlorpheniramine. I hope this really helped!
