Sharp Pains During Pregnancy, Help!

My wife is getting sharp pains during pregnancy, and the only thing I can think of it is that she is getting contractions. Could you please tell me what the reasons of getting sharp pains during pregnancy could be? It is really hurting my wife and she is 5 months pregnant. I am sure that you do not get contractions this early right. Is it possible? What are the other causes of pains, should she be taken to a doctor. I know about the back pains but she is feeling the pain on the lower abdomen.

Abdominal pain during pregnancy is common during pregnancy but if your wife is facing sharp pains you should consult your doctor. There are different causes of abdominal pain during pregnancy for example cramping, false labor, stretching of ligaments, implantation. During early pregnancy some women feel cramps and period like low pain which is due to implantation. Sometimes abdominal pain occurs during second trimester of pregnancy due to stretching of muscles and ligaments. If your wife is facing the pain due to stretching of ligament it can cause dull pain. She can feel it during coughing, and after getting up from a bed. There is another reason behind abdominal pain is false labor. During this your wife can feel contraction and irregular tightening of uterus muscles. False labor is also known as Braxton-Hicks contractions. It is not very painful but some women can feel pain. Whenever your wife feels a pain, bend toward the pain to relieve it. She should take a warm bath.
