Renowned electric vehicle manufacturer ‘Smith Electric Vehicles’ in collaboration with ‘Trans Tech Bus’ is all set to hit the street with an all new electric school bus. Named ‘Newton eTrans’, this bus weighs 26,000 pounds and can seat 43 passenger. Bryan Hansel, CEO of Smith Electric Vehicles, believes that speed and predictability of routes are very crucial for school buses, since these run only on a few designated routes. If the exact distance is predetermined, one can keep worries away.

‘Green’ design and concept
It would not be wrong to say Smith’s idea has been materialized. The company would offer customers, an enhanced series of lithium ion battery sizes. These batteries can shoot up to a maximum of 120kWh starting from 40kWh. This bus is loaded with 3000 lbs of batteries, can run at top speed of 120 miles per hour and is fitted with a permanent magnetic motor, capable of generating 150kW of vertex power. Mr. Hansel further believes that the robust batteries would enable this bus to have a better acceleration compared to electric cars. Apart from that, Trans Tech Bus has put in significant efforts in designing the body, interiors and structure of the bus.
Why is it great
Newton eTrans is believed to undergo production by the second quarter of this year. Once this bus hits the road, kids will enjoy a truly faster and cleaner journey to school.
