Sulfamethoxazole Tmp Ds tab has side effects?

I am doing some research on medications given to children, just for my general knowledge. I have never heard of Sulfamethoxazole Tmp Ds Tab. What is the full form of Tmp and Ds if there is any? I want to what common medications are given to children at what ages and for what reasons. Starting from infants to teens? A doctor who is a good friend of mine told me that Sulfamethoxazole is not normally recommended. The claims are that this medicine has very bad side effects. What are these side effects and what is the cause of it? it would be nice if you could list some other drugs like Sulfamethoxaazole. What does it contain that is harmful for children and adults?
