Tailbone Pain During Pregnancy!

Is it typical to get severe pain in the tail bone? My wife is getting it, and she pregnant, could you please help by informing us if it is ok. Even if it what can be done to prevent it. Why does a pregnant woman get tail bone pain and back pain. Could it become very serious later on if not checked out immediately? Will it go away once she delivers? How long will she have the pain, she is 22 weeks pregnant. I cant see her in pain, please tell me soon if tailbone pain during pregnancy would harm the mother or the child?

Well, I can understand your as well as your wife’s pain. But you don’t need to panic because it’s normal and common to experience pain in the tailbone during pregnancy as it rubs against the lower back, due to the baby putting pressure on the bone. It’s difficult to tell you that how long she will be facing this pain. Because while some women have tailbone pain before becoming pregnant, others experience new onset of tailbone pain during pregnancy week 17 or 22 or even during labor. But be careful about the medications that your wife takes for tailbone pain. Pregnant women should avoid taking NSAIDs, non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, naproxen, Aleve, aspirin, Bufferin, etc. Consider non medical ways of curing tailbone pain during pregnancy. Some of the options available are massage or relaxation techniques, soothing baths or applying ice to the area. There are some salts that may be added to bath. Such baths have a welcome soothing effect on the pain. Make sure that she avoid sitting on surfaces that worsen the tailbone pain and also, avoid prolonged sitting. Help her in finding the sitting position that is most comfortable for her. You can help her by bringing a comfy seat cushion if she used to sit for long periods of time. Hope this will help you some.
