Tech-free childhood: A good idea?

If you look at the sharp difference between the modern system of education and that of the yesteryear, one thing that will distinctly hold attention is the dependence on technology in the recent times. The schools, colleges and educational institutions nowadays comprise of technologically advanced gadgets that aim at making study easy for the students. What is more amusing to know is that many parents who themselves work at the top notch technological firms of the world prefer to send their kids in schools that emphasize on conventional method of learning and totally curtails off the presence of technology in classrooms. Now, the question in this regard is how effective is tech based world for children? Is it really beneficial for them or the tech free childhood of the yesteryear was much better in comparison? Here, we have attempted to focus attention on the relationship of technology with childhood and its various aspects.

Gadget based world makes children dependent

Parents, who are supporters of the gadget free childhood remark that absence of gadgets made hardly any difference in the lives of their children in the yesteryear. They would learn to read, write, analyze and logically decide on a topic in the same manner as children of the current generation do. They object the notion that technology and gadgets make studying easier for the children. They rather advocate that technology only makes children of the modern times too much dependent on them. As a consequence, they have literally lost the ability to move forward in their lives without gadgets. Say for example, a kid of the future generation will take the help of computers or calculators in solving a simple maths. But, children of the past, who did not have a relationship with gadgets at all, would do it independently and correctly.

Tech has made kids gizmo robots

The parents further say that tech based childhood makes children robotic. Technological gadgets act as magnets for children. The parents say that this is being really damaging for the kids. The children of modern age are becoming more and more unsocial. Nowadays, children love to stay at home with these gadgets and do not show any interest towards making new friends or going out of their homes at all. This is also creating health hazards for them as there is vehement lack of physical activity which is necessary especially during the growing years. They have lost the imaginative mind and the power of thinking and dreaming and have become too practical and robotic.

Experts opine that too much adherence to computers and over exposure to technology at a tender age does harm the children rather than doing any good. The process of learning is inhibited due to computers. They favor the age old method of education and have found through extensive research that too much inclination and exposure to technological gadgets at a tender age often have damaging effect on the brain.

Technology is always good when it is restricted

The discussion so far has thrown light upon the ill effects of technology on the teens. But it doesn’t imply that you will put your kids totally away even from the preliminary exposure to technology. This way your kids will lag behind their technologically sound peers. Monitor the use of technology and computers and help your children discover the educational and amusement apps once in a while, when they are in their leisure. Make your interaction with computer learning, a fun session rather than an addiction.

Reading is a good hobby. Inculcate the reading habit of your kids through technology. When you decide to let your kids have some technological exposure, download some ebooks on kid related topics. This will make your children happy and increase their knowledge bank when they read them.

Never allow your kid to sit idly in front of the computer whenever they are free or when they are supposed to play outside. Rather, make exposure to technology a treat for your kids. Reward them with some computer games, download some kids movies or colorful posters for them or upload their own pictures on the computers as wallpapers when they live up to your expectations. This way they will be technologically up-to-date and never be over dependent on technology.
