toddler discipline....

My child is 3 years old and has started behaving like an arrogant and timid kid....I don't want him to continue like this....need some guidance from the parents on toddler discipline which will help him to tame his ways to handle the situations in a proper way...he has started throwing lot of tantrums and has become irritating with his ways, when we show some kind of restriction on any activities....I want to know some effective ways of making him more disciplined and respectful to others....

Dealing with a toddler can be quite challenging and making them disciplined can be more difficult than that. But you need to understand that you are your baby's role model and before implying any behavior on him, you yourself should reflect that. While dealing with a toddler you need to be very patient and calm as anger will only make conditions worse. Hitting and spanking should be the last option as toddlers tend to forget that after few minutes and do not understand why they got that. Try to understand what your baby is trying to tell you and spend as much time with him as possible. Teach him to accept 'no' sometimes, as giving him everything that he wants is not possible. When the baby is irritated and not willing to listen, draw yourself away from the situation and let him calm down. Never tell him that he is bad, instead, call the behavior bad. Appreciate him when he shares something with others, or listens to you. Set simple and clear rules for your baby. Never scream on them and speak with them respectfully, they will retaliate the same way and cooperate the same way. Try to ignore the small things and understand their feelings. Following these simple rules can make your kiddo a bright and responsible citizen of tomorrow.
