Top 10 baby shower trends for 2012

Baby shower is one occasion that is close to every parent’s heart. It is a blessed moment to welcome your baby. Although it has been a part of our tradition yet everyone wants to come up with new and trendy ideas of hosting a baby shower. Listed below are the top baby shower trends for 2012.

1. Diaper cakes

Making a diaper cake will never go out of fashion and will always be a popular idea for baby showers. All you have to do is to roll up some diapers in form of a cake and gift it to the honored couple. You can improvise by decorating the ‘cake’ with ribbons to match the decor and theme of the baby shower.

2. Gender reveal cupcakes

This is a great idea to reveal the gender of your baby to your guests. For this you need to make the appropriate colored frosting for your cupcakes. Fill your cupcakes with blue frosting, if you are expecting a boy and use pink frosting for a girl. You can make it more interesting by wrapping all the cupcakes in a neutral color such as yellow or green and then see how they get surprised as they bite into their cupcakes.

3. Baby theme food

Even though the baby shower is for adults, you can stick to the theme and serve them baby food. Now don’t go and feed them the baby formula, but you can have them drink milk from baby cups and jars or straight from the carton, just like kids do. Use bright colored straws to avoid spills and prepare mini-cupcakes and tarts.

4. Jack ‘n’ Jill reveal

This is one great baby shower idea where you don’t have to do the actual work. It’s the guests who have to adhere to the baby shower theme. Ask your guests to wear either blue or pink to symbolize their guess for the gender of the baby. If you want, you can make suitable colored party favors in pink or blue to reward your guests for guessing correctly.

5. Guessing game

This is another great idea for a baby shower where you can ask your guests to guess what the weight of the baby will be at birth. If you are sensitive about this subject you can go for other alternatives of guessing such as eye color, hair color. This is more fun especially when the parents have different eye color or hair.

6. Onesie decoration

This is a time-honored tradition associated with baby showers where your friends and family can come together to decorate onesies for your baby. Not only will it help you ease off the burden, you will also get to incorporate different styles in your baby’s wardrobe. Buy onesies in solid colors like black and give your guests craft items to decorate the onesie.

7. Book theme baby

If you are fond of reading yourself and dream of reading storybooks to your baby, then this theme is perfect for you. Ask your guests to bring with them one storybook they enjoyed reading or being read most as a child. You can also ask your guests to add a little note for your baby inside the book.

8. Bring a letter

If you are going to invite many people then you can have your guests bring with them a letter or a number which you have assigned to them. Ask them to decorate it a little and then put all the letters and numbers in your baby’s room for enjoying later.

9. Sprinkle party

This baby shower theme is more appropriate for someone who is expecting their second or third child. This baby shower theme is not for first time mothers. Usually a woman expecting her second or third baby will have most things she needs with her. So, all that is required from guests at the baby shower are few things such as diapers.

10. ‘See and Sip’ party

Some parents like to host a party after the arrival of their baby. If you are one of them you can host a “see and sip” party where guests will see your baby for the first time and will also enjoy sipping drinks you serve them.
