After going through your question, I did some research on pregnancy induced hypertension. You have stated that your wife is 5 months pregnant. This type of advanced pregnancy often creates some anxiety, mental tension resulting in common hypertension. But when the Blood Pressure (BP) reaches to a level of 140/90 and over with lack of protein in urine, the risk factor for this kind of pregnancy induced hypertension increases. From the facts you have provided, I came to know that your wife is still to be a pregnancy induced hypertension patient (I do not know whether you have got her urine tested or not?). Usually, if there is any previous record of hypertension in your family, with renal diseases, diabetes, obesity, etc. The chance of this kind of hypertension is increased. You have not told about your wife's age. If she is more than 35, the risk factor increases. Moreover, it is even seen that among the African-American  race this kind of pregnancy induced hypertension is frequently found. This disease creates complication in delivering a healthy child but do not worry there are specific medicines like methyldopa, hydralazine and labetalol which are usually used to treat this kind of hypertension. Even low dose of aspirin can be helpful to prevent this(for further research you can visit Google scholar site and search for pregnancy induced hypertension). I also want to state that I am not a doctor. Just helping you as a friend. Please consult a registered medical practitioner before using the medicines I wrote about.
