What is the parents television council?

Hi I was reading somewhere about the parents television council. I wanted to know what your take is on this method of enlightening parents. What does this council do exactly, what do they teach the parents to do or not do. Does this organization take money for what they do? Do you have to enroll in this program? How many times a year does this council holds its classes? Is it worthy of its information provided and does it really help the people do what they say the council teaches. Which is places hold these council meetings?

The Parents Television Council (PTC) is a U.S. based advocacy group founded by conservative activist L. Brent Bozell III in 1995. Through publications on its website including staff reviews, non-scientific research reports, and web-based newsletters, the Council proclaims television programs or other entertainment products to be beneficial or harmful to the development of children. While their claims of potential harm are not corroborated by any independent scientific body or studies, and despite a membership count of less than 1/100 of one percent of the U.S. Population (12,000 as of October, 2010)[1], the Council's proclamations are regularly and prominently featured as valid fact in mainstream U.S. news media. The Council launches several media campaigns a year against the producers and advertisers of television programs they perceive to be "indecent." A typical campaign involves press releases declaring a particular program harmful (often with a tally of "unacceptable" character behavior or situations), the organized mass mailing of form letters and emails to advertising sponsors of unapproved programs, organized mass filing of complaints via the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website complaint form, and direct threats of long, potentially costly FCC license challenges to local network affiliates planning to broadcast "harmful" network programming. In 2004 the FCC revealed the Parents Television Council as the primary source of all content complaints received. Throughout its existence, the Council has been accused of promoting censorship and been criticized for its ideology.
