Who are the toxic parents?

We must have seen many a times on the bottles of the medicine the name written—toxic. Often, we even hearing doctors saying it’s a toxic medicine. By toxic, the doctors mean poison.  According to the dictionary too, toxic means something that is adulterated and hazardous. Something that can be life-threatening.

Therefore, a toxic parent is a dangerous parent.  That means, he/she can literally harm the child due to the excessive negative thoughts.  The methods of injuring the child by a toxic parent depends from person to person. It can be verbal, physical and unfortunately sexual too. There are also parents who totally overlook children’s emotional needs.  They can also be called as toxic parents.

The incidents of father raping his own daughter, mother torturing her daughter with blade come under this category.  This amounts to felonial crime in many countries.  Excessive chronic depression is likely to turn a person into a toxic parent.  However, there could be other reasons behind this condition including drug abuse, multiple personality disorder, perfectionism, bipolar disorder and anti social behavior.

After becoming an adult, if a person realizes the inhumane attitude of his parent towards him, he can come to a conclusion that his parent is toxic.  He can approach a therapist and sort out the problem. In case, if the parent suffers from bipolar disorder, then he/she needs to visit a doctor. At the end, there are always solutions. Therefore, one need not worry if he has a toxic parent.
